Jon Andersen has been unanimously elected as the new president of Utah Valley University by the Utah Board of Higher Education.
Andersen will take over the leadership role in Orem following the departure of Astrid Tuminez, who stepped down from the presidency earlier this year.
An Utah native, Andersen attended Bingham High School and Utah State University.
He is currently serving as the head of Pennsylvania Western University.
Six individuals were arrested following a drug bust in Utah County involving heroin and methamphetamine. The operation, conducted by the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force, resulted in the seizure of significant narcotics.

OREM, Utah (ABC4) — A large dust devil, caught on video, formed in Orem earlier today. On Wednesday afternoon, a large dust devil formed fairly close to several businesses in the Orem/Vineyard area, near the Vineyard Megaplex. Notably, the businesses have multiple empty lots behind them, with that dust potentially contributing to this formation.
Myron Lamont Accuttoroop of Roosevelt, Utah, passed away on August 16, 2026. A member of the Northern Ute Tribe, he was known for his dedicated service to his community and his faith.
The Bureau of Land Management held a geothermal lease auction on federal land in Utah on August 18, 2026. While trade press reports suggest the auction set new records, official figures and the names of winning bidders have not yet been confirmed by the agency.
