Skyridge junior quarterback Jagger Fountaine scored four touchdowns on Thursday, Sept. 17, to lead the Falcons past Lehi 28-20 in the Region 3 opener at Lehi High School, according to a report by the Alpine-Highland-Lehi Tribune.
The cross-town rivalry game was tied 14-14 at halftime before Skyridge pulled away in the second half behind two long scoring strikes from Fountaine.
Fountaine opened the scoring with a quarterback keeper and later connected with wide receiver Omarian Sanders on a 54-yard touchdown pass. Lehi responded with two non-offensive touchdowns in the first half: senior linebacker Paul Unga returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown, and senior wide receiver Cam Wren returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.
In the second half, Lehi running back Cam Bryce scored a rushing touchdown, but the Pioneers failed to complete the extra point after a bobbled kick. Skyridge's defense prevented Lehi quarterback Briggs Jensen and the Pioneers from scoring for the remainder of the game by recording sacks, tackles for loss, and pass breakups.
Fountaine, who played through an ankle injury without being sacked, secured the win late in the fourth quarter with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Malosi Shepard.
Skyridge's victory extends their winning streak to five games following a 41-26 loss to Mountain Ridge on Aug. 14. Skyridge entered the game ranked second in the Region 3 preseason coaches poll, while Lehi was ranked fifth.
Skyridge head coach Justin Hemm stated that the team's close contests have helped build trust within the squad. Lehi head coach Andy Hadfield had previously challenged his players to finish drives following a win over Weber on Sept. 11.
