The Murray City Municipal Council held a meeting on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to conduct city business, including the approval of new bond issuances and updates to the municipal code, according to meeting minutes published August 19.
During the meeting, the council approved an ordinance to amend the Murray City Municipal Code regarding employee holiday vacations. This amendment aligns the city's observation of Juneteenth with changes made during the 2026 State Legislative General Session, ensuring the holiday is observed on June 19 starting in 2027.
The council also approved the 2026 Wastewater Master Plan and authorized the issuance of two sets of revenue refunding bonds. The first involves Sewer Revenue Refunding Bonds, Series 2026, in an aggregate principal amount of up to $1,074,000. The second involves Water Revenue Refunding Bonds, Series 2026, totaling up to $7,791,000. Finance Director Brenda Moore explained that these measures aim to split outstanding bonds that were previously intertwined, separating water and sewer debt to align with the current separate divisions within the Public Works Department. Moore noted that these actions would result in no new debt accumulation.
The council also approved the reappointment of Gil Rodriguez and Kyle Winther to the Personnel Advisory Board for terms running from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029. Additionally, Hayley Crew, a Customer Service Librarian, was recognized as the Murray City Employee of the Month for her service and organizational skills.
In his report, Mayor Hales announced that the city will maintain its ban on personal fireworks for the July 24 holiday. He also shared a report from Chief Mittelman regarding a successful emergency birth handled by Murray first responders.
