The Orem Events Advisory Commission met on August 13, 2026, to discuss a lineup of upcoming community events and city updates. The meeting, chaired by Ashley Shumay, included the introduction of new commission member Dr. Brian Waite, the Associate Dean of the College of Health and Public Service at UVU.
The commission reviewed several scheduled community activities. A Picnic with Police was organized for August 20 at Westmore Park for the Stonewood and Westmore neighborhood cluster. The Taste of Orem is scheduled for September 19 at City Center Park, featuring a centralized cultural information tent with performances from groups including Ali'ei Hawaiian, Latin Dance Heritage, Haitian Community of Utah, Ballet Folklorico, Viva Chile, Indian Classical Dance & Music, Chinese Dancers, a Peruvian Performance Group, a Break Dance Group, and Bagpipes. The commission is currently seeking a music-focused group to fill a remaining 30-minute performance slot.
Other upcoming events include the Puppy Paddle Pool Party at the SCERA pool on September 19 and Trunk or Treat at University Mall on October 17. The Trunk or Treat event will include a low-sensory hour from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and features activities such as trick-or-treating, big truck exploration, a 360-photo booth, and a potential animal show. Due to parking reductions from new Home Depot construction, organizers plan to adapt the layout by closing the street to stage vehicles.
The commission also discussed planning for Veterans Day and Memorial Day, proposing David Spencer's father and Nathan Osmond as potential speakers. The next meeting for the commission is scheduled for Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
