The Cache County Sheriff's Office has released photos to assist in identifying suspects responsible for vandalism in Logan Canyon. According to the sheriff's office, the incident occurred during the overnight hours leading into Aug. 19 near the Right Hand Fork area.
Investigators reported that individuals gained unauthorized access to heavy construction equipment in the area, including an excavator and a front loader. The perpetrators used the front loader to push two portable traffic control signals down an embankment into a river, causing severe damage to the machinery.
Each custom traffic light unit is equipped with specialized solar panel installations and is valued at more than $30,000, bringing total equipment damages to over $60,000. Further up the canyon, individuals also operated an excavator without authorization to knock down a significant number of trees.
Deputies responded to the scene following reports of the destruction and continue to investigate the area. Law enforcement officials have not yet released details regarding how access to the equipment was obtained or specific details regarding potential suspects.
The sheriff's office is asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Right Hand Fork or Logan Canyon areas overnight to come forward.
