Iron County School District administrators are working toward a transition to a four-day school week for the 2027-28 school year, according to district communications released on Sept. 17, 2026. Superintendent Dr. Lance Hatch stated that all discussions regarding the potential schedule change remain in draft form as officials seek feedback from the school board.
Drafting the New Schedule
The proposed shift toward a four-day schedule involves ongoing meetings between district administrators and staff. These meetings include discussions regarding frequently asked questions to address concerns as the district prepares for the potential change in the 2027-28 academic year.

Learning From Missouri
In preparing for the transition, the Iron County School District administrative team recently participated in a video conference with administrators from a school district in Independence, Missouri. The district in Independence is slightly larger than Iron County School District.
District officials noted that the Independence district has implemented a four-day school week with success. According to district reports, the implementation in Missouri did not negatively impact academic performance; rather, student learning outcomes showed improvement following the change.
Districtwide Communication
The district's current administrative efforts are being communicated across several local schools, including Cedar High School, Fiddlers Canyon Elementary, North Elementary, South Elementary, and Parowan Elementary. Each school has released information regarding the ongoing discussions regarding the four-day week.
