Davis Adult Education is providing individualized support and flexible pathways to help students achieve high school diplomas, strengthen English language skills, and prepare for future careers, according to a November 6 report.
The program assists adult learners in reaching milestones that serve as first steps toward college, career training, or new professional opportunities.
Erin Clark, the director of Davis Adult Education, stated that the program is effective at transitioning students into further training. She noted that the program helps students think through their next steps, such as transitioning to Davis Tech or other career training programs.
Clark added that federal funding supports the teachers and programs that make these opportunities possible, noting that the visit from federal officials offered an opportunity to show how adult education helps students move toward career preparation, family stability, and a living wage.
U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon recently visited the program for a tour and conversations with students, teachers, and staff. The visit, which was recommended by the Utah State Board of Education, highlighted the work being done to help students move beyond the classroom toward career preparation.
Teacher Amy Madsen noted that the program can change the course of lives by providing students with the confidence to check a box on a resume and earn a diploma.
Davis Adult Education has received significant recognition for its performance. In 2024, the Utah State Board of Education named the program Overall Program of the Year. In 2025, the Davis School District Board recognized the program with honors for Best Overall Program and Highest Measurable Gains in the State.
Graduates from Davis Adult Education have pursued technical training, university degrees, and careers in various fields, including advanced manufacturing and health care.
