In a notice posted to the Utah Department of Health and Human Services website, officials reported that 715 Utah residents have been diagnosed with measles during the current outbreak. Of those cases, 518 have occurred in 2026, while 197 residents were diagnosed in 2025.
According to the department, no new exposure locations have been reported as of August 25, 2026. Public health officials in Utah investigate cases to identify individuals at risk and any locations where possible exposures may have occurred, though they noted that other exposures may exist that are unknown to the state.
The department stated that wastewater testing can indicate when the measles virus is present in an area because it detects when infected individuals are shedding the virus. However, these results do not specify the exact number of people shedding the virus in a given area.
Public health officials advise that if an individual believes they have been exposed to measles, they should monitor for symptoms for 21 days. The department provides resources for various settings, including K-12 schools, businesses, and summer camps, to assist with measles preparedness and response.
