Depot personnel with the Ogden Air Logistics Complex can now order prescription safety eyewear through an on-site kiosk in Bldg. 100, according to a September 29 report.
This new system eliminates the need for off-base optometrist appointments and paper voucher systems for eligible depot civilian employees who require eye personal protective equipment.
The Eyelation kiosk allows employees to order ANSI Z87+ prescription safety eyewear. As a benefit to the employees, the OO-ALC funds the eyewear to maintain safety.
William Hood, OO-ALC program manager, stated that every pair of safety glasses is custom fabricated to the artisan's exact optical prescription and job requirements. Orders can also be placed online via mobile or desktop through the Eyelation Marketplace.
The ordering process takes approximately 10 minutes. After logging in using an account profile, a high-precision camera scans and measures facial dimensions and pupillary distance. Employees enter their current eye prescription, which may be single vision, bifocal, trifocal, or digital freeform progressive.
After selecting ANSI-Z87+ rated frames, employees can customize features such as lens materials, coatings, and tints. Completed orders are shipped within three to 10 business days. Every order includes a 30-day guarantee with free prepaid returns and adjustments.
By offering the service on base, the OO-ALC saves employees approximately two hours that would otherwise be spent traveling into town to obtain prescription safety eyewear. Hood noted that the kiosk modernizes PPE fulfillment with commercial off-the-shelf automation, which enhances safety compliance, reduces overhead, and keeps depot maintainers focused on warfighter readiness.
The OO-ALC Acquisitions/Acquisition Management Support Office collaborated with the depot's Voluntary Protection Program/Safety office to obtain the kiosk.
Mechanics and technicians who have used the kiosk reported satisfaction with the eyewear's optical clarity, anti-fog coatings, and delivery speed.
The office plans to install additional kiosks in high-traffic, nonsecure common areas to provide 24/7 access for employees on all shifts.
