The Sutherland Institute announced that its board of directors has selected Utah state Senator Todd Weiler as the organization's new president and CEO. The decision follows the completion of a national search process.
Weiler is scheduled to officially begin his leadership role in early August.
Board Chair Brent Andrewsen stated that Weiler's public service reflects a commitment to the core mission of the Sutherland Institute, specifically regarding faith, family, and freedom. Andrewsen noted that Weiler's record in advancing religious freedom and empowering parents has helped position Utah as an example to the nation.
Executive Director Derek Monson described Weiler as a principled advocate and effective leader who has provided a stabilizing influence during significant policy debates in Utah. Monson expressed that Weiler's leadership is expected to increase the impact of the organization within Utah's capital, courtrooms, and classrooms.
In preparing for the transition, Weiler will reduce his responsibilities at his law firm while continuing to serve as a state senator.
Weiler stated that he looks forward to building on the foundation of the Sutherland Institute with the goal of improving the lives of Utahns and strengthening local communities. He also expressed interest in expanding the organization's footprint and developing future leaders.
