Kyara Wood has been appointed as the new principal of Saint John the Baptist Middle School in Draper. Wood, who previously served as the assistant principal of the campus' elementary school, stated that leading the middle school represents the culmination of her years of experience in Catholic education.
Originally from the Midwest, Wood holds an undergraduate degree in elementary education and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Winona State University in Minnesota. She also recently completed an educational Leadership Certificate from Utah Valley University.
Wood began her career in public education in 1999 before transitioning to the Catholic education system. She has served in three different dioceses: Arlington, Texas; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Salt Lake City, where she has worked since 2015.
Wood expressed that the middle school is unique due to its mission, people, and community. Her goals for the school include striving for academic excellence, faith formation, personal growth, service, and responsibility for the common good.
She aims to foster a community where students are prepared for high school through leadership development and tailored educational experiences. Wood noted that the school focuses on academic excellence and personal growth to help students become well-rounded individuals.
Wood described the opportunity to foster a community that serves and enriches others through academic excellence and personal development as an incredible blessing. She noted that the relationships and fellowship within a Catholic school community provide a unique and rewarding experience.
