Willard Bay State Park has issued an algae advisory for The Pond, according to a notice posted to the Utah State Parks website. While day-use areas and campgrounds remain open, officials report low water levels at the park.
The park's North Marina, South Marina, and various water surfaces, including the Bay, South Inlet, and open water areas, are currently open. However, boat ramps at the North and South Marinas are closed, requiring visitors to launch at their own risk. Courtesy docks and fishing docks remain in the water year-round.
Campgrounds including Cottonwood, Willow Creek, and the South Marina area are open. According to the park, flushable bathrooms and showers are now open in all campgrounds. Camping is available on a first-come, first-serve basis after 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for those without a reservation.
Water temperatures for both Willard Bay and Willard Peak Pond are reported at 61 degrees Fahrenheit. The water level for Willard Bay is at 49 percent. Fishing opportunities remain available, with recent reports including yellow perch, crappie, wiper, channel catfish, walleye, and largemouth or smallmouth bass. The park notes that possession of commercially sold and preserved gizzard shad is allowed, but possession of gizzard shad, dead or alive, is otherwise unlawful.
Park hours are from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., though officials noted these hours are not reflective of gate attendance. The park management team includes Park Manager Benjamin Meraz and Assistant Park Manager Kandi Burden. Visitors are reminded to wear life jackets and are notified that boat launching is at the owner's risk.
