The Utah County Health Department offered several community classes and training programs aimed at health promotion and prevention. These initiatives included car seat education, the E.A.S.Y. Program to eliminate alcohol sales to youth, and various wellness workshops.
Car seat safety education
The department provided car seat education classes in both English and Spanish, featuring online-only formats through the Child Passenger Safety Learning Portal. Following the course, eligible families could access free car seat safety checks or an affordable car seat program based on need and availability. These checks were available in person or virtually at locations in Provo, Payson, and Saratoga Springs.
Alcohol retailer training requirements
For alcohol retailers, the E.A.S.Y. Program required training for employees who sold or supervised the sale of alcohol for off-premise consumption. Under state law effective May 3, 2023, retailers received certifications that required renewal every three years.
Diabetes and chronic pain workshops
Health workshops included Living Well with Diabetes, a six-week program for managing type 2 diabetes, and a workshop for managing chronic pain. Additionally, the National Diabetes Prevention Program, known as PreventT2, offered a year-long lifestyle change program for adults with prediabetes.
Opioid prevention and tobacco training
Other specialized training options included opioid overdose prevention and Naloxone training, which provided kits to reverse overdoses. The department also facilitated tobacco cessation training for healthcare providers and tobacco prevention presentations for school administrators.
Youth school safety programs
Safety programs also extended to youth through the Safe Routes Utah School Assembly, a 30-minute presentation regarding walking and biking safety for students in first, second, and third grades. The department's offerings focused on providing accessible educational resources for residents across Utah County.
