Rebeca Hafen, a 34-year-old woman, died after being struck by a vehicle while in a wheelchair on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 8, north of Moroni, according to a Sept. 11 report.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. at 1808 E. Dairy Lane. The Utah Highway Patrol identified sun glare as a primary factor in the collision.
Hafen was pregnant with her ninth child at the time of the accident. Following the collision, she underwent an emergency delivery, but both Hafen and the infant subsequently died.
Authorities told KSL-TV that charges against the driver are not expected unless investigators determine that speeding was a factor in the crash. The identity of the driver has not been released.
Tyson Hafen, the victim's husband, stated in an interview with ABC4 that he was 14 hours away when he learned of the accident. He described Hafen as a dedicated wife who had dreamed of having 12 children.
A family-created fundraising page is seeking donations to assist with medical expenses, recovery needs, and childcare for the couple's eight children.
