A flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City for southwestern San Juan County in southeastern Utah and eastern Kane County in southern Utah.
According to a notice from the National Weather Service, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across Dry Rock Creek and lower portions of Hole in the Rock Road down to Lake Powell.
The warning included areas such as Headless Hen Canyon, Coyote Gulch, Forty Mile Gulch, Fifty Mile Gulch, and Davis Gulch. Up to 0.75 inches of rain had fallen at the time of the notice.
Officials stated that flash flooding was ongoing or expected to begin shortly. The hazard involves life-threatening flash flooding of creeks, streams, slot canyons, and normally dry washes.
The National Weather Service advised moving to higher ground immediately to protect life. Authorities also warned to turn around when encountering flooded roads, noting that most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
