The FDA is investigating a multistate Salmonella Bovismorbificans outbreak linked to broccoli sprouts grown by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC. According to an FDA notice, the investigation involves illnesses reported in Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Washington.
The investigation, conducted in collaboration with the CDC and state and local partners, has identified Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC of Moyie Springs, ID, as the common grower of the sprouts consumed by patients before becoming ill. On September 4, 2026, the company initiated a recall after state officials in Montana analyzed a positive Salmonella sample that matched the outbreak strain.
Epidemiological data shows a total of 22 people have been infected by the outbreak strain across four states. The reported illnesses began between July 7, 2026, and August 26, 2026. Of the 19 people interviewed, all 19 reported eating sprouts, with 17 reporting they specifically ate broccoli sprouts. There have been two hospitalizations and no deaths reported.
Recalled products consist of broccoli sprouts packaged in plastic bags or plastic clam shell containers. The affected items have expiration dates of 9/7, 9/9, 9/11, 9/14, and 9/16. While distribution has been confirmed in Idaho, Montana, and Washington, the products may have been distributed to additional states.
Consumers, restaurants, and retailers are advised not to eat, serve, or sell the recalled broccoli sprouts. Those who purchased the product should carefully clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers they touched. Individuals experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, or abdominal cramps should contact a health care provider.
