Arizona State University and Sun Devil Athletics announced a multi-year naming-rights partnership with Mountain America Credit Union. The 15-year agreement, which is the most significant in the history of the athletics department, includes the university's football stadium, which was renamed Mountain America Stadium, Home of the ASU Sun Devils.
The partnership was described by ASU President Michael Crow as one of the most important naming-rights deals in the history of college sports. According to Crow, the agreement creates a pathway to help the university compete at the highest levels of athletics within a changing environment.
Ray Anderson, ASU vice president for university athletics, stated that finding partners to invest in the 26 sports, 650 student-athletes, and 300-plus staff and coaches is necessary to compete at a high level during a transformational time in college athletics. Anderson noted that the athletic department requires technology, nutrition, mental health resources, and travel to win championships.
Sterling Nielsen, president and CEO of Mountain America Credit Union, said the partnership allows the organization to support hundreds of student-athletes and the Arizona community through enhanced scholarship, internship, and cause marketing programs.
The stadium's playing surface, Frank Kush Field, was named after the legendary coach in 1996. The venue has hosted four football national championship games and the NFL's Super Bowl.
