Antelope Island is subject to Stage 2 fire restrictions and significant water level changes, according to a notice from Utah State Parks. The notice states that no open fires of any kind are permitted, including those in established fire pits, charcoal grills, or pellet grills.
Due to low water levels in the Great Salt Lake, the Antelope Island main boat ramp is closed for motorized boat launching. Officials stated that motorized launching is not feasible from this ramp and recommended using the launch ramp, docks, and reservoir at the user's own risk. Additionally, access from parking lots to the lake shoreline is over 1/3 mile due to extremely low water levels, and conditions at the shoreline may be muddy and potentially hazardous. The Antelope Island Marina is considered unusable for launching boats.
Under the Stage 2 fire restrictions, fires are not permitted in Ladyfinger and Split Rock Campgrounds. Other prohibited activities include smoking except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer, building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area that is paved or free from dry vegetation. Other restrictions include cutting, welding, or grinding metal in areas of dry vegetation, operating small internal combustion engines without an approved spark arrestor, and discharging fireworks or pyrotechnic devices.
Properly shielded gas or liquid-fueled portable camp stoves with a shut-off valve are allowed, provided there is at least three feet of diameter that is barren with no flammable vegetation. While day-use and campgrounds remain open, road and trail conditions are reported as clear and dry, respectively.
Various insects are present on the island during warm months. While biting midges are not currently active, mosquitoes, deer flies, and brine flies are present. Officials noted that West Nile Virus has been found in Davis County.
