Brandon Flowers has revealed plans for his third solo album, titled Thrasher, which draws from his formative years and personal experiences. In an interview published August 18, the frontman discussed how the record revisits his childhood and his desire to explore more personal themes than his previous work.
The album, scheduled for release on Friday, August 21, was recorded in Nashville and features collaborations with musicians including David Rawlings, Bruce Bouton, and Charlie McCoy. Flowers noted that the project is the first of two planned solo albums, with a second, more romantic record intended to follow. He described the new work as an answer to the loneliness epidemic, aiming to capture human connections.
Growing up in Nephi, Utah, Flowers was influenced by the country music played by his father, such as the music of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. He stated that while his previous work with The Killers often focused on the Las Vegas scene, Thrasher is more personal and centered on his inner circle. The artist mentioned that he felt more capable of tackling these sensitive topics, including family experiences involving drug abuse and domestic violence, at age 45.
Regarding his work with The Killers, Flowers mentioned that the band has been meeting in Salt Lake City to work on demos. While a new album is not yet finished, the group has been working with Ariel Rechtshaid and Shawn Rado. Flowers noted that the band meets periodically to continue chipping away at new material.
Thrasher is set to be released via Island Records. Flowers will also embark on a headline tour across North America, the UK, and Ireland starting in September.
