The Uintah School Board held a regularly scheduled work session and business meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the district office in Naples, according to a report published Oct. 9. The meetings included discussions regarding the Uintah Middle School closure and a school reorganization study.
The district is accepting online public comments regarding the proposed closure of Uintah Middle School and the reorganization of elementary and middle schools. Individuals may submit comments through a provided online form until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 21, 2026, to allow the board time to consider them before a vote scheduled for Dec. 22, 2026. The district noted that online comments may be subject to public disclosure under Utah law.
During the business meeting, the board celebrated October Students of the Month, including Zaeli Kirk, Jazlynn Guevara, Elizabeth Harrison, Liam Pearson, Cassius Blackhair, Quinlee Carson, Emerie Peterson, Violet Murphy, Zeryk Hacking, Keira Warburton, Ella Murphy-Paquette, and Jaxton Lamb. Additionally, English teacher Amanda Muffler was recognized as a Utah Education Association Excellence in Education award winner, and the Davis Elementary Dragons were celebrated for achieving i-Ready’s Super Stretch status in math for a second consecutive year.
Upcoming district events include a Vernal Middle School and Museum of Uintah County art open house on Monday, Oct. 19, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets for the Uintah High Theatre production of The Drowsy Chaperone are also on sale for performances held Oct. 23-24, Oct. 26-27, and Oct. 29-30 at 7 p.m. Furthermore, Uintah Middle School will host the Rooted in Community event on Monday, Nov. 9, at 5:30 p.m., featuring motivational speaker Braxten Nielsen.
Uintah High School students will compete in the Wasatch Front Invitational at Riverton High School on Saturday, Oct. 11. The Uintah High Marching Band and Color Guard are scheduled to take the field at 3:15 p.m. The district also announced that there will be no school on Wednesday, Oct. 14, due to parent-teacher conferences, and all schools and district buildings will be closed Oct. 15-16 for Fall Break.
Classes and district buildings are scheduled to resume normal operations on Monday, Oct. 19.
