Arizona head coach Brent Brennan discussed the upcoming matchup against No. 15 BYU in a media availability, according to a September 10 report. The Wildcats were scheduled to travel to Provo, UT, to begin Big 12 play against the Cougars following a 35-7 victory over NAU in Week 1.
Brennan noted that BYU has been one of the best teams in the conference for several years and features outstanding players. He described the upcoming game as a big-time matchup played in a tough environment. Regarding the previous year's loss to BYU, Brennan stated that the team is focused on current practice and recovery rather than the past, noting that both programs have many new players.
Brennan also spoke about the physicality expected in the game, specifically highlighting BYU running back LJ Martin. He described Martin as a powerful player who is difficult to bring down. Addressing the atmosphere in Provo, Brennan said he did not view the crowd as a problem during the 2024 game, suggesting that the team's performance and turnovers were the primary issues.
The Arizona coach also reflected on his long-standing relationship with BYU head coach Kalani Sitake. Brennan expressed respect for Sitake and recalled their time living in the same neighborhood while Brennan was on the Oregon State staff.
