The Ogden City Council appointed Jeremy Peterson to fill the vacancy of At Large Seat C during a meeting on Tuesday, July 21. The decision was reached through four City Council votes in favor of Peterson.
The appointment followed an interview process involving 19 candidates who submitted applications for the vacant seat.
During his interview prior to the appointment, Peterson stated that he has dedicated his profession to improving the city. He noted his experience serving in the Utah House of Representatives and spending eight years at the Capitol, which provided him with an intimate understanding of the separation of powers.
Peterson is scheduled to take office on August 1 and will serve until the current term expires in January 2028. He will be officially sworn into office before the work session on Tuesday, August 4.
The vacancy was created after Council Member Shaun Myers submitted a resignation letter to the Ogden City Council office on July 1, 2026. This initiated a 30-day window for the council to make an appointment.
Interested individuals had until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, to submit applications. The list of candidates was updated daily on the Ogden City Recorder's office webpage as applications were received.
