The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City issued a Tornado Warning for east central Tooele County in northern Utah on Aug. 13, 2026. The warning was in effect until 6:30 PM MDT.
At 5:55 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 7 miles southwest of the Tooele Army Depot, or 11 miles south of Grantsville. The storm was moving east at 50 mph. Radar indicated rotation was the source of the warning.
Impacts from the storm included the potential for dangerous flying debris, damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles, and damage to mobile homes. Tree damage was also considered likely. The storm was expected to be near Tooele and the Tooele Army Depot around 6:00 PM MDT, with other impacted locations including Rush Valley, Stockton, and Erda.
Officials advised residents to take cover immediately by moving to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoiding windows. Those outdoors, in a vehicle, or in a mobile home were advised to move to the closest substantial shelter to protect themselves from flying debris.
