University of Utah head football coach Morgan Scalley addressed the media on Monday during a weekly press conference held at the Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Center. During the session, Scalley discussed the team's performance following a bye week and prepared for an upcoming game against Kansas.
Scalley noted that the team had a hard-fought loss to Kansas previously but secured a win over Kansas State on Saturday. He expressed pride in the offensive and defensive lines for their ability to fight through adversity. The coach also commented on the development of Kelvin Obot, noting his athleticism and physicality as he moves toward the tackle position.
Regarding the upcoming matchup, Scalley described Kansas as a physical squad that ranks near the top of the conference. He noted that Kansas ranks first in total defense in the conference, and second in both total offense and rushing offense. He expressed respect for coach Leipold and mentioned the team's athletic quarterback, Marshall.
The coach also touched upon the athletic department's recent successes. He highlighted women's volleyball sweeping a ranked Colorado team and defeating Baylor at the Huntsman Center. He also mentioned women's soccer achieving a shutout win over No. 23 ranked Central Florida and the men's and women's swim and dive teams sweeping the podium in 1-meter and 3-meter dive events at the Intermountain Shootout.
Scalley highlighted the individual achievement of men's golfer Sergio Jimenez, who is preparing to compete at the Spanish Open. Jimenez is the first Utah Ute golfer to play in a professional international tournament.
Scalley expects a large crowd for the upcoming game, anticipating a whiteout environment at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
