Dear Salt Lakers,
August was a month of turning community ideas into action. We finalized this year’s capital projects, unveiled the community-shaped vision for Fleet Block, opened new support for affordable housing and small businesses, and gave one of Salt Lake City’s favorite pieces of public art a colorful next chapter.
With the school year underway, please remember to slow down in school zones and stay alert for students, families, buses, and crossing guards. A little extra care on our streets goes a long way toward keeping everyone safe.
Your ideas are becoming City projects
With the City Council’s adoption of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) this month, the FY27 budget process is complete. One thing I love about Salt Lake City’s CIP is that residents can bring project ideas directly to the City. Several resident-proposed projects received funding this year, including:
A new flashing-light crosswalk near Mead Avenue and West Temple in Central 9th and Ballpark
Safe Routes to School crossing improvements near Rose Park Elementary
Safer 1700 South Neighborhood Byway crossings near Whittier Elementary
Adding sidewalks near Highland Park Elementary on Kenwood Street and Atkin Avenue
Lighting for the pickleball and tennis courts at Glendale Park
