Amelia Earhart Elementary School reported a successful start to the school year in a message from Principal Dr. Patricia Blanton. The school noted that kindergarten students officially joined the school on Wednesday.
According to the principal's message, classrooms are settling into routines and relationships are growing. The school announced that Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County is scheduled to begin offering after-school programming at Amelia Earhart Elementary on Tuesday, September 8. This program is independently operated by the Boys & Girls Club, and families should direct questions regarding registration, enrollment, or scheduling to that organization.
Upcoming scheduled activities for the school include vision screening on August 31, school picture day on September 4, and hearing screenings on September 14. Additionally, the school's PTA and School Community Council are scheduled to meet on September 14, and a Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled for September 14 through September 17.
The school also highlighted academic focus areas regarding Utah's SB 241, which emphasizes developing reading skills in early grades. Teachers will use assessment data to identify students needing additional reading support, which may involve developing Individual Reading Plans (IRPs) with families. The school noted that regular attendance in elementary school is a strong predictor of high school graduation.
