Bountiful celebrated its annual Handcart Days on July 24 and 25, featuring a massive parade through the city streets and a large-scale fireworks display to commemorate both pioneer heritage and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Parade and community activities
The festivities included the Handcart Day Parade on Saturday morning, which is recognized as the second largest parade in Utah. The 1.8-mile route began at 1500 South Main Street, proceeded north to 400 North, and concluded near Bountiful City Park.
Parade logistics and capacity
According to Handcart Days organizers, the parade reached capacity for the 2026 event, with no additional entries accepted except for Days of 47 parade floats. The committee had previously set a deadline of May 30 for applications and implemented a $200 entry fee for for-profit businesses.
Event programming and entertainment
During the two-day event, Bountiful City Park hosted various activities. On Friday, July 24, the park featured games, food, and an 8 p.m. concert by Jenny Oaks Baker and family performing "American Mosaic." Saturday activities running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. included a fish pond, drone candy drops, and gunny sack races.
Historical commemorations
The celebration served two historical purposes: remembering the July 24, 1847, arrival of pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley and marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Commemorative T-shirts for the independence anniversary were available for purchase at the park.
Closing fireworks display
The weekend concluded with a fireworks display provided by Bountiful City on Saturday, July 25. The show launched from behind Mueller Park Junior High School at 10 p.m., with viewing areas designated around the school building and in surrounding neighborhoods.
Attractions and concessions
The event offered a mix of free and paid attractions, ranging from mountain men displays to mechanical bull rides. Food vendors provided items such as BBQ sandwiches, corn on the cob, and local treats like Creamies and Fat Boy Ice Cream.
