The Salt Lake County Planning Commission met on July 15, 2026, to address several amendments regarding resource management and municipal codes, according to meeting minutes approved on August 12, 2026.
During the meeting, the commission held a public hearing regarding a proposed amendment to the Salt Lake County Resource Management Plan. The amendment seeks to add sections covering renewable energy, critical minerals and rare earth elements, utility corridors, pipelines, and infrastructure. Following an analysis by presenter Sean Keenan, the commission voted unanimously to recommend the amendment to the County Council with staff recommendations. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
Commissioners also considered an amendment to Section 9.90.025 of the Salt Lake County Municipal Code. This proposal would adopt the 2024 Edition of the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code in accordance with H.B. 41 from the 2026 General Legislative Session of the State of Utah. Brian Tucker provided an analysis of the code amendments, noting that adopting the code ensures consistency and avoids confusion for planning staff. The commission voted unanimously to recommend the adoption of this code to the County Council.
The meeting, conducted by Commissioner Watkins, also included the approval of the June 10, 2026, meeting minutes. Staff reminded the commission of the 2026 Annual Planning Commissioner training, which satisfies three of the four required hours of continued education.
