The Brownfields Assessment Grant Advisory Committee met on April 7, 2026, to review property and budget updates for several sites in Salt Lake County. During the meeting, the committee discussed the progress of various assessments and addressed specific funding requests for site actions.
According to meeting minutes, several properties are currently undergoing assessment. The CDCU 1084 W 1700 S site is progressing through its Phase II assessment, with a report expected by early May. Additionally, the SLC Crossroads Thrift Store was sampled on a Friday, with a Phase II assessment report anticipated by mid-May. The SLC Rio Grande Phase II assessment is on hold pending site access permission.
The committee also reviewed a request for an additional $7,150 to be used for a Hazardous Building Materials Survey (HMI) at two additional parcels for the CDCU Emeril Apartments. The motion to approve the additional funding was carried.
Regarding the Midvale Public Works site, the committee discussed a request for an additional $43,500 for a Site Action Plan (SAP), Phase II ESA, and HMI. This follows a previously approved $3,500 for Phase I.
Budget updates provided by staff indicated that most grant funds are currently committed to active property assessments. The committee noted that once these assessments are finished, the County will determine the remaining funds available for additional assessments.
The EPA is expected to provide updates regarding the 2026 Coalition Assessment Grant cycle in mid-May, with a cooperative agreement anticipated to begin on October 1.
The next committee meeting was scheduled for May 5, 2026.
