A unique 100k night ride during a Lunar Eclipse was scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27, on Antelope Island, according to an August 24 report by Salt Lake Randonneurs. The event was set to start at 7:00 PM, with participants meeting at 6:30 PM at the south parking lot of 950W 200N in Barnes Park, Kaysville.
Participants were advised to bring night gear, including a reflective vest, ankle straps, and head and tail lights. Due to previous experiences with dense bug hatches during this ride, the use of a headnet was recommended. A $3 cyclist fee was required for the causeway.
Cyclists were instructed to carry all necessary supplies for the first 54 miles, as no food is available on the island at night. Additionally, water sources on the island have been unreliable during recent years due to construction.
The Lunar Eclipse associated with the ride was expected to have a start time of 8:33 PM, a maximum at 10:12 PM, and an end at 11:51 PM.
