Salt Lake City is no longer offering stickers for its Green Vehicle Parking Program, according to a notice on the city's website. The program is scheduled to end on June 30, 2026.
Following the end of the program, green vehicle stickers and permits will no longer be valid at metered parking stalls. Starting August 1, parking in a metered stall without payment will result in a parking citation.
City officials stated that the decision to end the program was made during budget season to focus limited funds on core services, maintenance, and programs serving low-income residents. The city noted that the program was established through an ordinance requiring the use of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay standards to identify efficient vehicles. However, the EPA is no longer updating that list.
Because the EPA is no longer updating the standards, the city stated it cannot verify that permit holders drive the cleanest vehicles. The city decided to end the program rather than continue one it cannot administer fairly.
The Salt Lake City Transportation Division manages parking and permits for the city.
