The inaugural Utah Youth Sports Giving Day will launch on Sept. 12, 2026, as a statewide effort to expand access to sports programming for children throughout the state. The two-week fundraising campaign aims to strengthen funding for registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations by providing increased visibility and community engagement tools.
A Model for Statewide Impact
The new statewide initiative is a partnership between Miller Sports + Entertainment, the Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation, and the Daniels Fund. According to a June 5, 2026, announcement from the Larry H. Miller Company, the campaign is designed to expand access to youth sports and promote the lifelong benefits that athletic participation provides for young people across Utah.
Utah Youth Sports Giving Day is modeled after a successful fundraising effort in Colorado. In Colorado, similar youth sports giving days have raised millions of dollars to support hundreds of nonprofits, helping organizations lower participation fees, provide necessary equipment, and reach a larger number of youth athletes.
Fundraising and Matching Funds
The campaign will be hosted on UTAHGIVES, a statewide giving and fundraising platform powered by the Utah Nonprofits Association (UNA). Starting Sept. 12, Utah residents will be able to donate to any registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit of their choice.
To incentivize donations, the campaign features a significant matching component. The first $1 million raised during the event will be matched dollar for dollar by the Utah Youth Sports Giving Day match-pool partners, according to Utah Gives.
Nonprofit Preparation and Training
To prepare participating organizations for the event, the Utah Nonprofits Association hosted a live training webinar on July 28, 2026. The session was designed to help nonprofits navigate the Mightycause platform used for the campaign.
During the training, organizers covered essential registration procedures, profile customization, and general setup to ensure organizations are ready to celebrate their impact between Sept. 12 and Sept. 26. The Utah Nonprofits Association is leading all participant communications, training, and resource distribution for the event.
Expanding Youth Opportunities
The campaign seeks to address the financial barriers that often prevent youth from participating in organized sports. By strengthening the funding for registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, the initiative aims to provide more opportunities for youth to engage in sports programming.
Beyond direct funding, the Utah Youth Sports Giving Day is intended to provide shared momentum for youth sports nonprofits across the state. The platform offers various tools for fundraising, storytelling, and community engagement to help organizations connect with their supporters.
Campaign Timeline
The two-week campaign is scheduled to run from Sept. 12 through Sept. 26, 2026. During this window, supporters can use the UTAHGIVES platform to contribute to their chosen youth sports organizations.
Community Philanthropy
The Utah Nonprofits Association remains the primary organizer for the event, providing resources and support to all participating organizations. The initiative builds upon Utah's existing culture of philanthropy and community engagement to support its youth athletic infrastructure.
