The Brian Head Town Council held a regular meeting on July 14, 2026, to address several community matters, including the approval of new sports court regulations and discussions regarding land management code amendments. The Council approved an ordinance amending Chapter 12 of the Land Management Code regarding sports courts. The new regulations include provisions for chain link fencing with a non-reflective matte finish, setbacks that allow fencing to extend halfway into required setbacks, and specific lighting requirements. The approved amendment mandates that lighting height shall be no higher than necessary for the proposed activity and no higher than 12 feet without Planning Commission approval.
Discussions were held regarding proposed amendments to the Land Management Code to create a Mixed Use Overlay Zone. While the Council reached a consensus that the overlay is appropriate for General Commercial, Village Commercial, Light Industrial, and R-3 zones, members remained divided regarding its application to R-1 single-family residential zones. The Council requested that the proposal be revised to include R-2 and R-3 zones and returned to the Planning Commission for further review.
Town Manager Bret Howser provided updates on several infrastructure projects, including the Elk Drive Special Assessment Area, Blue Jay Way, and Forest Drive. Additionally, it was noted that the Town has won a lawsuit regarding a bulk water dispenser. Other community updates included the announcement of the Tactical Archery Challenge at Brian Head Resort and the upcoming Brian Head Days scheduled for July 24-25.
The meeting concluded with the Council requesting updates on the Missing Citizen Voice Ad Hoc Committee report for a future agenda. The session was adjourned at 2:47 pm.
