The Point Partners has officially broken ground on the first phase of development at The Point in Draper, Utah, according to a September 9 report. This initial phase marks the start of vertical development for the 104-acre site, which is intended to become a mixed-use hub.
The development is supported by $2.3 billion in private funding from The Point Partners, a consortium led by Lincoln Property Company, Colmena Group, and Wadsworth Development Group. Additionally, the Utah Legislature has provided a $165 million infrastructure investment for the first phase.
Planned features for the site include mixed-use residential and retail buildings, a 5,000-seat event center named the Mountain America Event Center, and a 2,000-foot walkway called The Promenade. The event center will be managed by Oak View Group. The first phase also includes 363 planned apartment units, structured parking, and public spaces.
A University of Utah Health campus is planned adjacent to the first phase, supporting a broader vision for a health innovation district within the district. The scale of the project is expected to create opportunities for architecture, engineering, construction, and management professionals.
The project is a phased rollout that will likely offer multiple bidding windows for additional construction and development contracts as the development progresses.
