Salt Lake City will reconstruct Girard Avenue from Columbus Street to its terminus. According to an update on the city's website, construction is expected to begin late 2026 to early 2027 and is anticipated to take five to six weeks to complete.
The project includes a full reconstruction of the asphalt roadway and upgrades to curb ramps to meet current ADA standards. Improvements will also involve replacing sidewalks, driveway approaches, curbs, and gutters as needed. Additionally, street parking infrastructure between Washington Street and 200 West will be improved.
During construction, residents may experience daytime noise, dust, and intermittent access limitations from Monday to Friday. On-street parking restrictions will be in effect, and new concrete infrastructure, such as driveway approaches, will require a seven-day cure time.
Landscaping may be disturbed during the work, though the project team stated they will restore impacted landscaping in kind, potentially using seed, sod, or similar species. Crews will attempt to avoid irrigation lines and sprinkler heads, and the project team will coordinate repairs if irrigation infrastructure is damaged. Garbage collection is expected to continue as normal.
