The Tooele County School District Board of Education held a meeting on September 8, 2026, to review district academic progress and address various policy updates, according to meeting minutes published September 9.
During the meeting, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Cody Reutzel presented an overview of the District's Early Learning Plan. He reported that several literacy and mathematics goals were met or exceeded during the most recent school year, specifically noting performance in kindergarten literacy and second- and third-grade mathematics. Dr. Reutzel also discussed the use of Acadience Reading and Math assessments to monitor student progress.
The board approved several policy revisions through unanimous 7-0 votes. These included updates to graduation requirements to align with state legislative changes for the Class of 2029, revisions to research approval and survey processes, and updates to parent and family engagement policies to meet federal Every Student Succeeds Act requirements. Additionally, the board moved the Board Member Code of Ethics policy to a second reading and moved sex education curriculum materials forward for a second reading following a recommendation from the Sex Education Curriculum Committee.
In the transportation update, Transportation Director Chlorissa Goddard and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sarah Jarnagin reported that child-check alert systems are now standard equipment on buses. They also reviewed findings from a transportation compliance audit and discussed a proposed capital budget amendment for additional safety equipment.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Ernst presented the 2025-2026 Annual District Report, which highlighted academic growth and strategic goal progress. He outlined priorities for the 2026-2027 school year, focusing on instructional practices, employee support, school safety, and operational efficiency.
