Weber State offers inside look at MARS Center, invites new aerospace partnerships

OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University’s Miller Advanced Research and Solutions Center is offering an inside look at the technology, research, and testing methods used to support the aerospace and defense industry.
Visitors are invited to an open house at the MARS Center, located at the Falcon Hill Aerospace Research Park in Clearfield, Utah, on Sept. 17 from 3–7 p.m. and Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“The projects and research we’re working on at the MARS Center can’t be found in many other places,” said Benjamin Garcia, MARS Center executive director. “Materials that can withstand extremely high temperatures and high speeds, for example, are expensive and time-consuming to make. Our work here helps improve that.”
Garcia and other MARS team members will host equipment demonstrations during the open house, including live rocket motor testing on Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m. and Sept. 18 at noon.
“We have such strong momentum at MARS, and there’s room for more players in the industry to come see how they can partner with us and benefit from the resources and expertise we have here,” Garcia said.
In addition to cultivating strong aerospace and defense partnerships, MARS has become known for advancing the careers of engineers and scientists who make a positive impact nationwide.
“The MARS Center serves as a vital bridge connecting Weber State students and researchers with government and industry leaders, advancing an environment for collaborative innovation,” said Brian Rague, College of Engineering, Applied Science & Technology dean. “By engaging directly in cutting-edge research with defense and aerospace partners, our students build the exact skills and practical experience needed to step seamlessly into high-demand industry roles upon graduation.”
During the open house, the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation will present a $7,500 gift, bringing its total support for Weber State student scholarships to more than $195,000 since 1969.
Attendees will also get an early look at the planned site of the future Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Production — a collaboration with 47G to provide additional space and support for air logistics projects with Hill Air Force Base.
“Future initiatives like CAMP will build on current success,” Rague said, “bringing expanded state-of-the-art facilities and workforce opportunities to northern Utah.”
