The Provo City School District is inviting students, families, educators, and the community to participate in ProvoREADS, a district-wide commitment to literacy. The initiative carries the theme Read Across the World for the current school year.
The ProvoREADS program operates under the goal of ensuring every child in Provo reads every day. The district aims to show students that reading is a tool to discover new perspectives, explore unfamiliar ideas, and understand the world.
Throughout the school year, students will participate in monthly themes inspired by different stages of a journey. These themes are intended to help students discover books of interest, establish reading habits, and explore various genres and formats. Schools and classrooms will support these themes through activities, celebrations, and read-alouds.
In August, the program featured the theme Pack Your Bags, which encouraged students and families to find books that spark curiosity and establish consistent reading routines. This month included a Family Reading Challenge where participants were encouraged to read in a new location.
The district stated that building strong readers requires a community-wide culture of literacy that extends beyond the classroom. The initiative encourages adults, including parents and community leaders, to make reading visible by reading alongside children and sharing stories.
