Newton Town held its annual celebration on July 24 and 25, 2026, featuring a variety of community activities and local fundraisers. The festivities coincided with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, a milestone Mayor Craig Rigby noted as an opportunity to reflect on the nation's heritage and the legacy of local pioneers.
The celebration included a range of events on Friday, July 24. Activities included a glow stick dance party hosted by the Newton Youth Council, a cornhole tournament, and an America Trivia Challenge. The evening featured dinner provided by Jason and Amy Goodsell, and ice cream supplied by local Newton farmers through Dairy West. A fireworks display was scheduled for the evening, followed by a post-fireworks event.
Activities continued on Saturday, July 25, starting with a dam run and breakfast provided by Jed and Becky Woodward and fire department helpers. A parade was scheduled for 9:30 a.m., followed by lunch at the pavilion. Other scheduled events included fire truck tours at the Town Hall, pioneer games, and various tournaments for volleyball, horseshoe, and pickleball. The Newton Library also held a book sale during the celebration on the Town Hall lawn.
In other community news, Newton Fire and EMS welcomed new members to the department. RivKah Hendrickson earned her Emergency Medical Technician certification and joined the EMS team, while Garrett Phillips joined the fire crew. Additionally, the Newton Youth Council announced it was seeking new members, specifically students in grades 8 through 12, to help get involved in community service and leadership development.
Mayor Craig Rigby also addressed the community regarding the summer weather, thanking residents for water conservation efforts during a hot and dry season. He recommended various efficient irrigation practices to help residents manage water usage effectively in the Utah climate.
