Uintah Middle School and Vernal Middle School have announced changes to the 6th grade schedule intended to help students transition smoothly from elementary to middle school. Beginning this school year, 6th graders at both schools will receive enhanced instructional time in core academic subjects.
The new schedule provides students with increased time for English Language Arts, Math, and Science to build a foundation in these subjects. Elective classes will be offered during the first and last periods of the day, with most courses rotating every six weeks.
Social Studies, Physical Education, and Health will be taught as trimester-long courses. This structure is intended to provide students with a consistent daily routine while allowing them to explore various electives and adjust to the middle school environment. The specific bell schedule for 6th grade is available on the individual school websites.
Uintah Middle School will host a 6th Grade Orientation and New Student Open House on Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event includes a welcome presentation, Chromebook checkout, campus tours, and informational booths. A Tri-County Mobile Vaccine Clinic will also be available at UMS from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 18 for families.
Vernal Middle School has scheduled Chromebook handouts for new 7th and 8th graders and 6th graders on Aug. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Aug. 12 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Additionally, VMS will host a Back-to-School Night for all students on Aug. 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., allowing students to tour the school and meet teachers.
School officials expressed a desire to welcome new students and address any questions parents or guardians may have regarding the transition to middle school.
