In a piece titled Together, We Look Up, Sheena McFarland reflects on the view of the Milky Way amidst the hoodoo spires of Bryce Canyon. McFarland, a former journalist and current marketing director, noted the rarity of being able to view the Milky Way, which eludes nearly one-third of humanity.
The reflection includes thoughts on the refugees McFarland has volunteered to guide as they establish new lives in Utah after fleeing war, famine, and other strife. McFarland stated that even if these individuals could not see the stars from places like Sudan, Burma, or Kosovo, they are bathed in the same starlight as they bring their ancestors, gods, and dreams to Utah's history.
McFarland, who holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership and policy, a master's of public administration, and a B.A. in communication, described the human journey as becoming stronger through diversity.
