As of 10:00 p.m. on July 14, Nevada Team 2 assumed command of the incident under Incident Commander Brian Kitchen, Utah Fire Info reported. The fire management transition occurred as hotshot crews worked through the night to manage the growing blaze.
Fire suppression efforts for July 15 include increased ground resources and significant aerial support. Officials confirmed that five helicopters and air tankers are being utilized to combat the fire.
Road Closures and Access
Ongoing road closures have been implemented to manage access near the fire perimeter. The Pony Express Road is closed at SR-36, and Sharp Road is also closed, according to Utah Fire Info.
Genasys Protect data from July 13 indicated additional closures in the area, including Mourning Dove Road, Hatch Ranch Road, and South Stockton. These closures impact various points within the Tooele County zone designated as TOE-199.
Evacuation Status
Evacuation preparations remain a priority for residents in the path of the fire. Genasys Protect reported on July 13 that Zone TOE-199 was placed under Evacuation Level 1: Be Ready status due to the Stookey Fire moving north into the area.
This alert instructed residents to prepare to evacuate, maintain go-kits, and specifically advised seniors and people with disabilities to take action. The zone is bounded by Pony Express Road and Rock Canyon Spring Road to the north, Johnson Ln to the south, Valleyview Dr to the east, and State Route 36 to the west.
