The Skyridge girls soccer team earned split results in its first two league contests, according to a September 8 report by the Lehi Free Press. The Falcons fell to the Pioneers on the road but topped the Cavemen at home last week.
On Sept. 1, the homestanding Pioneers secured a 2-0 shutout over the Falcons to open Region 3 play for both programs. Skyridge scored twice in the initial period and maintained the lead.
On Sept. 3, Skyridge secured a 3-0 home victory against a ranked American Fork squad. Junior midfielder Ke’ilani Nawahine opened the scoring with an olympico goal from a corner kick. Sophomore midfielder Lillian Boren added a second goal with a shot from just outside the 18-yard line, assisted by junior midfielder Hallee Sheffield.
In the second half, senior forward Cambri Condi completed the scoring after receiving a pass from senior defender Eva Lewis during a 1-v-1 situation.
Coach Jhoan Alvizo stated that the team showed great mentality and responded well to adversity. Alvizo credited the win to the intensity of the players off the ball and noted that senior defenders Gracie Watts and Leah Arnell provided leadership in the backline.
Skyridge will be off this week before resuming Region 3 play. The Falcons are scheduled to host Lone Peak on Tuesday, Sept. 15, followed by a match against Corner Canyon on Thursday, Sept. 17, with both games set for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
