Various local organizations are offering diverse volunteer opportunities for community members, according to a September 25 report from Weber Human Services. These roles range from specialized teaching positions to general administrative and manual labor assistance across Weber, Morgan, and surrounding counties.
The Hill Aerospace Museum is seeking volunteers for four-hour shifts from Tuesday through Saturday, and is also looking for individuals fluent in sign language or other languages to assist groups. The Hill Air Force Base Retiree Office is also looking for volunteers Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; these roles require base access and a status as a retired military member or spouse, though training is provided. Additionally, Onstage Ogden is seeking ushers for concerts and staff for summer festivals, with shifts lasting three to five hours.
Senior-focused opportunities include the Senior Companion Program, which seeks individuals 55 and older living on moderate to low incomes to serve as companions for homebound individuals. The program offers a small monthly stipend, and for those on SSDI, the stipend does not affect benefits. The Foster Grandparent and RSVP Grandparent Programs are also looking for individuals 55 and older to serve as reading tutors for elementary students for between two and 20 hours per week. Other senior needs include Tai Chi instructors at Washington Terrace Senior Center, wire wrapping and nutrition teachers at Northview Senior Center, and lunch servers at Washington Terrace.
Community service roles are available through Catholic Community Services for case managing or food pantry assistance, with shifts ranging from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on various days. The Weber County Animal Shelter is seeking volunteers over age 18 to walk dogs Monday through Friday from 1:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Additionally, the American Red Cross of Northern Utah is seeking volunteers for blood drive check-ins and disaster response. Other opportunities include flowerbed work with Give Me a Chance, meal delivery for Brigham City Meals on Wheels, and serving lunches at Ogden Valley Nutrition on Wednesdays from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. until the end of July.
For organizations in need of volunteers, Weber Human Services can be reached at 801-625-3777 or 801-778-6897. Individuals interested in volunteering who do not see a specific interest listed are encouraged to call to find roles that best match their skills.
