Residents impacted by evacuations in Eureka were provided an opportunity to collect necessary supplies and commodities a day after being permitted to return home for a second time.
Councilmember Raeleen Maxfield planned to be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building in Eureka on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. to hand out supplies to those in need, according to city officials.
Eureka residents were allowed back into their homes after rain and cooler temperatures offered relief from critical fire dangers on Sunday. Despite the return, the city remained under SET evacuation status, which required residents to stay prepared to leave if fire conditions changed.
The area had been under observation since the start of the Iron Fire on June 19, which forced evacuations. While some residents returned home, the emergence of the Cherry Fire and Maple Fire within the previous week prompted renewed evacuations that were later lifted due to a break in critical fire weather.
Wildfires had burned a total of more than 70,000 acres across Tooele, Juab, and Utah Counties. As of Monday morning, Utah Fire Info reported that the Iron Fire was 77% contained, while the Cherry Fire, which had officially merged with the Maple Fire, was 21% contained.
