rPlus Energies announced the successful start of commercial operations for the Green River Energy Center in Emery County, Utah. The facility includes 400 megawatts of solar power and a 400 MW/1,600 megawatt-hour battery energy storage project.
As the largest solar and storage facility within PacifiCorp’s six-state service territory, the center highlights Utah's role in meeting increasing energy needs in the West.
The project aligns with Operation Gigawatt, an initiative announced by Utah Governor Spencer Cox in 2024 to double Utah’s energy production over the next decade. Governor Cox stated that the Green River Energy Center represents the large-scale energy investment needed to deliver reliable energy and support rural Utah.
U.S. Senator John Curtis noted that meeting America's growing energy needs requires an all-of-the-above approach, adding that this investment strengthens energy infrastructure and supports Utah workers and communities.
The Green River Energy Center is expected to generate more than $55 million in property taxes for public services and schools. During its construction phase, the project employed hundreds of workers and utilized several local contractors.
Project partners committed $375,000 in scholarships for local students to help strengthen the region's long-term workforce. Additionally, during a commissioning ceremony held on June 22, partners announced a $45,000 donation to the Ferron Fire Department to support local emergency response services.
rPlus Energies President and CEO Luigi Resta said the project represents years of collaboration and is now delivering reliable power to families across the American West.
The project has received recognition such as Project Finance International’s Renewables Deal of the Year – Americas and the Emery County Business Chamber’s 2024 Energy Company of the Year award.
