Weber State wing Dylan Warlick is finding his role with the Wildcats after a collegiate journey that included stints at Wyoming and Saint Louis. In a report published November 1, Warlick credited former Big Sky MVP Kellen McCoy for his connection to the Weber State program.
Warlick, a 6-foot-5 wing/forward, arrived at Weber State through the transfer portal and was the fourth player to publicly commit to head coach Kellen Canales in April. During recent exhibition games, Warlick has been a central figure in Weber State's 3-0 run over Division II teams. He started all three exhibition games alongside Dyllan Thompson and led the team in minutes, averaging 28 minutes per outing. Over those three games, Warlick averaged 13.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists.
The Oklahoman's performance included an 18-8-4 effort against Colorado Mesa that helped the Wildcats secure a road win. Coach Canales noted in June that Warlick's size allows him to unlock offensive possibilities for the team. Warlick stated that the coaching staff has encouraged him to utilize his strengths, such as post-up moves and dribble-downs, rather than shying away from playing inside.
Warlick's path to Weber State involved several transitions. After a successful high school career at Edmond North High in Oklahoma, where his teams went 65-10 in three seasons and won two 6A championships, he originally intended to play for Wyoming before coach Jeff Linder left for Texas Tech. He later played 25 games for Saint Louis, averaging 10.1 minutes per game, before transferring to Weber State.
Weber State prepares for the start of the regular season, which is scheduled to begin Monday at Oregon State.
