The Murray City School Board held a regular meeting on September 11, 2025, at the District office to address several district-wide initiatives. The session included updates on construction projects, new firearm safety curriculum approvals, and reports on community donations benefiting local schools.
During the meeting, the board approved a new firearm safety curriculum for grades 3, 5, 7, and 9. The presentation included instructional materials, presentations, and parent permission slips.
Regarding district infrastructure, Scott Taggart, Director of Auxiliary Services, provided an update on bond projects. He noted that masons have begun work at both sites with footings and slab on grades complete. While the Murray High addition remains on schedule, tilt up walls at Riverview Junior High are expected to begin the week of September 22.
Financial and community updates were also presented by the Foundation Director, Doug Perry. He reported that Horizon, Parkside, and Hillcrest Junior High School received a combined $45,000 grant from the Ron McBride for afterschool activities. Additionally, the Boeing Company donated $50,000 to Murray High School to support its robotics program. A recent golf tournament also generated a record $33,357 in net revenue intended for teacher grants.
In educational reporting, Becky Te’o, Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning, shared data regarding 3rd grade reading levels. While the Utah State Board of Education has set a goal for 70% of 3rd graders to read at grade level by July 2027, current figures show 51.6% of Murray School District 3rd graders are reading at grade level, compared to a statewide average of 48.7%.
The board also approved an advance of FY26 School LAND Trust funding for four schools that overspent their allocations: Liberty Elementary, Parkside Elementary, Riverview Junior High, and Murray High School.
The meeting concluded with various reports from board members regarding school visits and community engagement. The board also unanimously approved the licenses and endorsements for seventeen individuals presented by the Director of Personnel and Student Services.
