Excitement filled the gymnasium at Orchard Hills as second grade students began their own Olympic Games with a torch lighting ceremony, according to a post from Orchard Hills Elementary.
During the ceremony, each class represented a specific Olympic value. These values included Determination, defined as keeping on trying; Respect, meaning actions matter; Courage, defined as being scared but doing it anyway; Excellence, which means doing your very best; Resilience, being willing to change; and Collaboration, working together for success.
Students marched around the gym waving flags while wearing their class colors. During the event, students pledged to embody these values throughout the upcoming games.
The ceremony was intended to celebrate athletic fun while reinforcing the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and character.
