Forecasts for the period of August 20–24, 2026, suggest above-normal rainfall is possible east of the I-95 corridor along the Atlantic coast.
Additional areas that could see wetter conditions include eastern Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, northern Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The region where the Ohio River and Mississippi River meet is also forecast to receive above-normal rainfall.
In the Southeast, many locations are forecast to experience above-normal rainfall.
In contrast, the South should continue to have below-normal rainfall, while the Southwestern states are expected to have moderate monsoonal rains. Little rainfall is forecast for the West Coast states during this five-day period.
Looking toward the 6–10 day outlook for August 25–29, 2026, the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center favors above-normal precipitation across the northern half of the Eastern Seaboard, from South Carolina to the eastern Great Lakes region and into New England.
Above-normal precipitation is also favored throughout Hawaii and over most of mainland Alaska, with the exception of the southern coast, southeast peninsula, and the Aleutian Islands. Meanwhile, below-normal rainfall is favored over much of Texas.
Temperatures are likely to be well above normal across much of the continental U.S., excluding the far West Coast and the region from the eastern Great Lakes to the Mid-Atlantic.
Hawaii is also expected to experience above-normal warmth. In Alaska, the northwest part of the state is likely to see below-normal temperatures, while the southeast is expected to see above-normal temperatures.
